Pyometra

Pyometra is a condition bacteria is able to enter the uterus and cause an infection. It is very serious and can be life threathing. Treatment must be immediate. The highest risk is 8 weeks after her estrus cycle has ended.

There are two types of Pyometera, Open & Closed.

Open Pyometra

Is when the cervix is open, and the infected material can leave the body.

Symptoms of Open Pyometra:

The main symptom is abnormal vaginal discharge, very fowl smelling.

Close Pyometra

Is when the cervix is fully closed and their is no discharge. The pus is not able to exit the body. If left alone, the uterus can rupture leading to a high chance of death.

Abdominal swelling (the puss building up)
Vomiting
Lose of Appetite
Depression / Lethargic
Incresed thirst
Difficulties geetting up (enlarge uterus makes it hard to walk)
Fever (not common)

Most common treatment is an emergency spay. The infected organ is removed.
